How to Get Free Sports Channels on a Fire Stick

In this tutorial, I will show you how to get free sports channels on a fire stick. Not only do we have a great way of avoiding the high costs of subscribing to pay-per-view events, but we can also enjoy watching our favourite teams play without having to buy expensive cable packages!

What Changes are Going into Effect From April 2?

In a statement from ESPN, they have made some changes to their coverage of certain events. In this article from the Seattle Times, you can read some of those changes. The significant change that will affect cord-cutters is as follows:

“ESPN has notified cable operators that are beginning next Monday, April 2, it will require that they provide ESPNU to digital customers who previously received it as part of a package. Cable operators will continue to receive ESPN2, which had been included in the offer, while subscribers to both channels will see their monthly charges increase by $1. Also, ESPN Classic is being eliminated from the bonus pack.”

This change only affects users of Sling TV, as they are the only one’s providing ESPNU and ESPN2. Unfortunately for these users, they can no longer watch all their sports games for free unless they switch to another service like PlayStation Vue or Directv Now.

Sling Blue provides FX, FXX, Fox Regional Sports Networks (RSNs), FS1, FS2, and NBC Regional Sports Networks (RSNs).

ESPNU is not included in Sling Blue. The only way to get ESPNU is to order the $5 per month Best of Spanish TV add-on package.

ESPN2 is available for free on Sling Blue, but it’s included in the “Sports Extra” add-on package for $10 per month.

ESPN Classic is not available on Sling Blue, but it can be watched free on TBS’ website.

This change does not affect any current Sling TV users until their subscription renews. So if you have your subscription to ESPNU or Sports Extra renewed anytime before April 2, you will continue to enjoy those channels free of charge.

Why Am I Paying More if I order Sling Blue?

As I mentioned before, ESPNU and Sports Extra are two separate add-on packages that can be purchased separately on top of Sling Blue for $5 per month and $10 per month, respectively.

Sling TV is still a great way to get live sports coverage without the need for cable, but there are some trade-offs.

For example, ESPNU will no longer be available on Sling TV after April 2 unless you order Sports Extra for $5 per month. However, that extra $5 gets you access to FS1, FS2, NBC Regional Sports Networks (RSNs), and Fox Regional Sports Networks (RSNs).

On the other hand, Sling Blue does not include ESPN. So if you want to be able to watch ESPN or SEC Network, you will have to order the Best of Live TV add-on package for $25 per month on top of Sling Blue. Of course, you could always subscribe to PlayStation Vue or Directv Now if you want both channels for a total of $40 per month.

With that being said, this is still a great way to cut the cord and save money on sports programming. This is just an explanation of why Sling TV has separate add-on packages for channels, so it’s essential to be informed before subscribing.

How Do I Get ESPNU and Sports Extra?

I suggest visiting Sling TV’s website, scrolling down to “Watch Now 7 Days Free”, and then clicking on “Start Watching Now” under the package that includes both ESPNU and Sports Extra.

The only way to get both channels in one subscription is by subscribing to both the Best of Live TV ($25 per month) and Sports Extra ($5 per month) bundle.

What if I Want to Stop Sling TV?

If you ever decide to unsubscribe, make sure your subscription does not auto-renew. It might get expensive since you will continue to be billed at the same price if it does. To ensure this does not happen, go to your Sling TV online account and cancel your subscription BEFORE the next billing cycle (usually on the 1st of each month).

This is very important because it’s straightforward to get a hefty bill if you forget to cancel before the monthly renewal. I learned this the hard way when my monthly bill went from $20 to over $60 one month by failing to cancel before the auto-renew date.

So remember, visit your Sling TV online account and cancel at least 24 hours before your subscription automatically renews to avoid incurring any unexpected charges.

If you follow a few simple steps, then this is a great way to save some money on the cost of sports programming each month!
